Corrie's Story: Fluent in Spanish but needing a plan for her kids!

Mother of two, Corrie, is a bilingual language enthusiast who has had plenty of experience with the world of bilingualism. Having grown up in Europe, Corrie was exposed to multiple languages from a young age. Although she was born in Holland and grew up there, she only spoke English with her parents. After moving to England for university, she decided to pursue the Spanish language, later moving to Seville for a year where she became immersed in both the language and the culture.

After marrying an American, Corrie relocated to San Diego, a city where Spanish is widely spoken. When her son Micah was about two and a half, Corrie decided that it was time to introduce him to one of her great passions - the Spanish language. She knew the value of learning a language while a child is young, and wanted to take advantage of his early years when children pick up so much.

As a high school level Spanish teacher, Corrie knew that teaching her young children a new language would be a challenge, as she wasn't used to engaging young children. She started looking for resources to support her goal and began searching for Spanish resources for her kids, desperate to find tools to support her Spanish language dreams for her kids.

One day while scrolling on Pinterest, she discovered The Cultured Home Spanish Program and discovered regular resources and a plan she could lean on. The program offered at-home vocabulary videos that were a hit with her kids, and reinforcing the words through their topical Spanish music playlists while the family runs errands have significantly helped to create a bilingual environment for both herself and her children.

“Instead of putting them in front of Peppa Pig, I started putting them in front of The Cultured Kid. Evelyn loved that,” she said.

After only a short time, both her children not only started to absorb The Cultured Kid Spanish videos and game lessons, but they also started actively using the language in their everyday lives!

Corrie found that consistency was key to success. She set aside regular time to teach her children Spanish, and used a variety of tools, such as flashcards and puzzles, to keep them engaged. She also made sure to expose her children to Spanish language media, such as books, songs, and TV shows, as often as possible.

Corrie stressed the importance of making language learning fun and engaging for children. If they’re not interested in how you're teaching them, the lessons won't be effective. She also emphasized the benefits of starting language learning at a young age.

“It’s never too late," she said, "I started learning Spanish when I was 18 years old, but for him, I really wanted to take advantage of his early years when children pick up so much.”

Corrie’s dedication to teaching her children Spanish has paid off. They are now able to understand and speak the language with confidence. Moreover, they are exposed to a culture different from their own, which has expanded their horizons and given them a unique perspective on the world.

For parents looking to introduce a foreign language to their children, Corrie recommends The Cultured Home Spanish Program. The program offers play-based resources that are both fun and effective, making language learning an enjoyable experience for children and parents alike.
